Start with your family’s questions

Before choosing a learning space, consider what would make everyday life easier. Is your child looking for people who share an interest? Would access to different resources help an idea grow? Are you trying to understand the homeschooling process, or find time within a busy week? These questions give an information call a useful starting point.

Free Path’s approach recognises four practical family concerns: time, social connection, learning resources and the homeschooling process. You can bring one concern or several. There is room to ask about your family’s circumstances without arriving with a complete plan.

Learning beyond the kitchen table

A community can add people, materials and fresh perspectives to learning at home. Free Path’s interest-led approach includes accessible resources, mixed-age interaction and mentors. Learners also have a voice in community decisions through weekly meetings about resources and mentors. Ask which sessions, people and materials are available in Greenway now.

For an illustrative example, a learner interested in building might want someone to discuss an idea with, a new material to try, or time to explain a design to others. That interest can guide a conversation about support. Ask what would help them take the first step and how they would like to share what they discover.

Make room for a workable rhythm

Think about travel, other commitments and the time your learner wants for independent exploration. A useful rhythm is one your family can revisit as interests and circumstances change. Discuss current session options and membership limits with the team before planning attendance around them.

You can also ask about help with homeschooling applications, learning programmes and annual reports. Be specific about the part you need help with, the information you already have and the questions you still need answered. The Canberra team can explain the support currently available.

Bring the learner into the conversation

Ask your child what they would like to explore and how they prefer to meet new people. Share those answers alongside your own practical questions. A helpful first conversation can cover the learner’s interests, the support they might want from a mentor and what your family hopes to understand about their progress.

Free Path is at 236 Cowlishaw St, Greenway, ACT 2900. An information call is a chance to talk through fit and current availability before deciding on your next step.
